CDC Expands Definition of “Close Contact” to Include Multiple Short Interactions

On October 21, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised its definition of “close contact” with someone infected with COVID-19 from a total of 15 minutes or more in one, continuous exposure, at a distance of 6 feet or less, to a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more (at a distance of 6 feet or less) over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated). See the CDC glossary for an extended definition.
