FAR Clause Prohibits TikTok on Federal Contractors’ Devices

Effective June 2, 2023, an interim rule amending the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) implements the ban passed by Congress as part of the 2023 omnibus spending bill. The ban prohibits having or using the TiKTok app or any successor application developed or provided by ByteDance Limited or an entity owned by ByteDance Limited. This applies to technology and/or devices owned or managed by the government, or used in the performance of a government contract by a contractor of the contractor’s employees. Comments on the rule are due August 1st, so revisions after that date are possible.
