Emotional Intelligence Among the Keys to Leadership
ES&A Professional Development Director Arlene Odagiri spoke at the 1st Annual Leading with Excellence Conference for University of Hawaii academic leaders, held August 7-8 at the UH Manoa campus. Odagiri’s presentation, titled “What Makes a Leader: Emotional Intelligence and the Keys to High Performance,” discussed:
the value of emotional intelligence (EI): knowing yourself, and managing yourself, so that you can have empathy and the ability to manage others
the ability to consistently maintain inner focus, outer focus and “other focus” while managing multi-generational workforces
communicating across the generation gaps
bridging the skills gap
The conference also featured sessions on succession planning, communication strategies, teambuilding, EEO issues, investigations, as well as internal processes and policies.
