NIOSH Releases Guidelines for Host Employers of Temporary Workers

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recently released new safety and health best practices for employers of temporary workers, defined as those who are paid by a staffing company and assigned to a host employer. NIOSH found that temporary workers are at higher risk for a work-related injury than non-temporary workers due to newness to the workplace, insufficient communication between employers and workers, and  insufficient training, among other reasons. The best practices cover evaluation and contracting; training for workers and supervisors; and injury and illness reporting, response and recordkeeping. For more information, see the best practices guidelines, DHSS (NIOSH) Publication Number 2022-126, as well as the best practices checklist.
